  • 2026 Recipe Contest Winners

    Dear VN DPG Members,

What a privilege and honor it has been to serve the Vegetarian Nutrition DPG!

Before serving as Chair-Elect and Chair, I had the opportunity to serve as Secretary. That experience taught me so much about VN DPG as an organization and gave me a deeper understanding of the operations, logistics, and dedication that keep this community moving forward. As Chair, I have wanted to do my very best to support our members and our mission because this community has always meant a great deal to me. Thank you for allowing me to serve you.

What has resonated with me most deeply has been the passion of our members and leaders. It is truly extraordinary. I have been inspired by the many conversations about your “why” – why you chose this field, why you advocate for plant-based nutrition, and why this work matters so much to you. I have seen the incredible work being done across the country and, for some, around the world. I continue to be moved by the beautiful diversity of individuals who come together in support of advocating for people and the planet through plant-based nutrition.

While we have certainly experienced challenges and setbacks within today’s political and public health climate, one thing remains clear to me…this movement is not going anywhere. The evidence continues to grow, our community continues to grow, and our collective voice becomes stronger every day. The work we do matters deeply.

I also want to give a heartfelt shoutout to our incredible leadership team. Every member of our leadership team has contributed countless hours to serving this DPG and advancing plant-based nutrition. Many of us balance full-time jobs, multiple responsibilities, families, and personal commitments, yet this team consistently shows up with dedication and heart. I am endlessly grateful to have served alongside such an incredible group of leaders.

And of course, thank you to all of our VN DPG members! Thank you for being part of this DPG and for sharing your expertise, curiosity, and passion for this work. VN DPG would not exist without you, and everything we accomplish is possible because of the strength of this membership. Please consider your VN membership so we can continue advancing this important work together.

I also want to extend a special thank you to the members who recently completed the membership survey sent out a few weeks ago. We received an incredible response rate and have already begun reviewing your thoughtful feedback. Your input is invaluable as we continue working to strengthen and grow our DPG.

As we look ahead, I am so excited for Kay Mills as she steps into the Chair role for the 2026-2027 term. Kay is an exceptional leader, and I know that under her leadership, VN DPG will continue building upon the momentum of our mission and sense of community we have strengthened together.

    With gratitude,

    Alicia Henson, MS, RD

Chair, Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group
